What makes a great hitter?

The basis of our program is fact-based... and once that "foundation of absolutes" is somewhat mastered, each hitter evolves to the higher levels of the art... the "absolutes" start to decline as each hitter finds the individual fine points of hitting.

What are the elements of hitting?

I believe you can divide hitting into 5 components;
1. The swing ... Simply stated, learning the proper swing mechanics will help the hitter hit the ball more often with more power.
2. Strength training, athletic training and overall fitness... Many swing faults are caused by lack of functional strength, strength imbalance and lack of fitness. Creating a strong, fit & and functionally elite body will elevate any hitters ability and skill level.
3. Vision,tracking, pitch recognition & decision making... as an industry, we almost completely fail in identifying and training this component of hitting.
4. The mental approach ... from on deck routines to a plan at the plate to working smart to knowing when to call it a day... this is another element that needs a lot of work on the whole.

5. Work ethic ...

The plan is to work on each element to where it becomes innate, instinctive or a habit ... or what you do naturally. So when game time comes, the hitter is confident and on auto-pilot.

Just as though you would fix a flat tire or a fuel injector on a vehicle. Once its fixed, you just push the gas pedal and drive.
